PNCC on the Internet

Filed under: Polish National Catholic Church — frj82 @ 1:43 pm

Why does the PNCC have such a poor presence on the internet?  It isn’t like this internet thing is new.  And although for a denomination, the PNCC would be considered new (113 y/0 church =”new”), we’ve been around for the entire internet age.  I can remember thinking back in 2000 how awesome the PNCC website was, with its new-fangled message board and how neat it was for a parish to actually have its own website.  Of course, in 2000 i was still impressed with Nintendo 64 and Liqouri’s Pizza, so take that for what it is worth.

Actually, what I am very unimpressed with are the results of a google (or whatever) search of the Polish National Catholic Church.  Besides your National and Diocesan websites, there are a list of Parish sites and…what?  Nothing newsworthy, which is rather cringe-worthy.  Does that mean our church on a whole is so uninteresting and vanilla that a search doesn’t yield anything in the realm of current news/events?

It seriously isn’t true – we have a lot of neat, attention-grabbing events as well as many talented media-oriented people.  Not tooting anyone’s horn, but I know of one of our clergy who doubles as someone who builds websites for churches that normally wouldn’t have one.  I know multiple parishes (including my own) that have a person (or persons) willing and able to make a great website.

If you have a moment, check out our Parish Website.  It is completely re-imagined, much more attractive and interactive.  Instead of me updating the bulletin once a week, we know have multiple people working to add content, media, and answer questions, making it a website that should be more of a “destination” for our own parishioners as well as others.  Which should be the goal of any website…right?

Because I am not an expert at this internet (or apparantly writing; I just started a sentence with a bad word), I can only assume that I am right.  So my point is – If you belong to a church and are internet-abled – do something newsworthy.  Make your website your church a destination.  Take a video of something good, constantly upload photos, record your priest’s world-changing sermons.  Baby steps add up.

Oh, and for your viewing pleasure, check out a small contingent of PNCC clergy “promoting” religious life.

  1. Know this is and old post, but meh.

Yeah Father I have often thought the same thing. I think that an online database which contains former doctrinal documents, binding decrees, etc. from synods, etc. would be very useful. It would require getting active permission from the Church and maybe individual dioceses, but I think it would be well worth it. I was at a time the webmaster of a parish website and had hopes of doing just that, but alas, it was too short lived and the parish too disorganised. If you ever here about this getting underway, and they need some people to do the leg-work feel free to contact me.
