2 Years Down

Yup, Happy two year anniversary of my First Mass.  Yup, January 28, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Parish in Westfield, Massachusetts.  And it took like 2 hours.  That means my two year anniversary of Ordination was this past Saturday the 24th.  Time flies.  I guess I’ll commemorate my two year anniversary of having a job as I was assigned to St. Stanislaus Cathedral on February 1st of that year.  So, for a fun little ride, here are 10 important things that have happened since then in my life, in order of importance.

10 – I watched my brother Andrew eat 13 pieces of Andy’s pizza.  This occurred while we were watching the Patriots win their 16th out of 16th game of 2007.  That’s like eating a loaf of bread, drinking 2 beers, and drinking 20 ounces of melted cheese.  Sound good?

9 – I lose a bet to a parishioner who happened to be a Giant’s fan because of the result of the 2008 Super Bowl.  I told him that the bet (which was lunch at Coney Island Hot Dog) washes out as of kickoff of this Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Cheap Shot, Crybaby, Bumblebee-colored (Mr. Polamalu), cheating, dirty, glory-hogging Steelers.

8 – The Boston Red Sox won the World Series in the first Fall Classic after I was ordained.  They also won in the first World Series that took place after I entered Seminary in Scranton.  I guess the next time they win will be when I move into my own parish.

7 – I got addicted to Rock Band (and video games too for the first time in years).  And bought a new car…you always remember your first new car.

6 – I attended my first Youth Convocation as a priest…preached…hosted Family Feud…and helped develop the infamous Convo Commercials.

5 – The Boston Celtics won the NBA championship.  A month later, 3 kittens are born on the other side of Scranton.  Three months later, 2 of those kittens, Frankie and Batman, join me on the 3rd floor of the rectory.  Since then, they’ve eaten the smelliest bug ever, got coated in ice cream, bit through the wires on my cheapo surround sound, making it “unsurrounding”, and, of course, caught an evil bat.

4 – I learned how to make Buffalo Chicken Wing Dip, which happens to be the greatest of all dips, and perfected the Chocolate Chip Cookie.  I learned how to make a website too, that was big.  And I started a blog…no link, you’re already here.

3 – Altar Servers at St. Stanislaus when I started – 7, give or take 1 or 2.  Now, 15 or 16.  That’s progress.

2 – One Hot Meal.  Though I insist I have little to do with it, I just suggested the idea.  They wouldn’t want me cooking anyways.  My diet is Hamburger Helper, frozen pizza, salad, sandwiches, and cereal.  Not so adventurous.

1 – I don’t know what #1 might be.  I suppose keeping a girlfriend for these awkward years is pretty big.  I suppose starting a nice little basketball league is ok.  I suppose finally getting used to wearing the black clothes and collar in public without thinking twice is pretty nice.  I suppose having 2 Christmas’s this past year was pretty awesome.  And this past Monday was pretty awesome- I think I shot about 80% in basketball…real life too, not video games!  Nope, my greatest accomplishment would have to be the fact that I’ve only had a dozen or so days to sleep in over the last two years…but I have yet to sleep through anything in the morning.  That would include 5am Easter Mass, 5am Rorate Advent Mass, and every other day of my life.  A few years ago, that would easily be the most inconceivable thing on this list.

  2. Fr. Jason –

I visited the website but the links are down. It looks like the video file (.wmv) are gone. I tried to search Youtube but no luck.

    Help?

I have a meeting trying to line up with Bishop about all things technology. I like what you are doing here but it can be improved. I want to explain how.
    Let’s meet soon.

    Regards,
    F.
